La Amicus Productions è stata una casa di produzione cinematografica britannica situata presso gli Shepperton Studios, Inghilterra.[1] Venne fondata da due produttori e sceneggiatori statunitensi: Milton Subotsky e Max Rosenberg.[2]
Films
I primi due film della Amicus furono due musicals per teenager, It's Trad, Dad! (1962) e Just for Fun (1963). Prima di fondare la Amicus i due produttori avevano lavorato insieme al film horror del 1960 The City of the Dead e così decisero che la Amicus avrebbe continuato a fare film horror ad episodi sulla base del film degli Ealing Studios Dead of Night. La Amicus ha però realizzato anche alcuni film thriller.[3]
I film della Amicus sono a volte confusi con quelli della più famosa Hammer Film Productions a causa dello stile visivo simile e l'utilizzo degli stessi attori, tra cui Peter Cushing e Christopher Lee. A differenza dell'ambientazione gotica di alcuni film della Hammer, i film della Amicus erano solitamente ambientati ai giorni nostri.[4]
Post Amicus
Milton Subotsky si trasferì in Canada per un certo periodo di tempo e tentò di portare avanti la tradizione dei film horror antologici con film come Artigli (1977) e Il club dei mostri (1980). Subotsky si assicurò i diritti per adattare sullo schermo alcuni scritti di Stephen King come L'occhio del gatto (1985). Subotsky morì nel 1996.
